Historically the previous ‘ages’ bought significant disruption and changes, but on a net basis jobs were created, wealth was enhanced, and the health and security of society improved. What will the Augmented Age bring? Will robots take our jobs, and AI’s subsume us as inferior intelligences, or will this usher in a new age of abundance?

“My Name is Watson”: Exploring Advances in Machine Learning and their Implications on Entertainment Industry Applications

Dr. Ali Arsanjani, CTO for Analytics Lab Services, shares an overview of IBM Watson and the abilities of cognitive systems to ingest unstructured data and come up with insights.

Watson, a cognitive system that interacts with humans in natural language, learns from these interactions and can read volumes of text and images to give us Augmented Intelligence. Using deep machine learning to uncover patterns and read thousands upon thousands of documents, images, to learn from them and consolidate them into insights that we tease out and can leverage as a tool to augment our creative strengths.

For example, Watson can ingest examples of scripts and unstructured data and tease apart the human language to identify inferences between text passages. Watson can augment human tasks by providing high accuracy ingestion, inferences and perform tasks at speeds far faster, and at a scale far bigger than a human, and the implications for the entertainment industry, as well as other industries, are limited only by our imagination.
