From Working for Others to Starting Your Own Consulting Practice
When I was little and people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say, “G-d . . . and a waitress on the side.” To me, that originally translated to being in charge at a large, multinational operation (while waiting tables, of course).
Over time, I realized I didn’t want to be in charge. I was happiest working with the people in charge to better their organizations. I enjoyed challenging them, supporting them—and providing the confidence and advice they needed to get through significant changes, transitions, growth, and turmoil. I was comfortable leading projects, leading initiatives, rallying a team—best as the catalyst for change, not a long-term figurehead.
